METHODS FOR REMOVING GUM FROM CONCRETE

The best methods of removing gum from concrete usually depends on the gum’s age and the level of penetration into the concrete surface. If the gum was left recently and it hasn’t penetrated the surface yet, we might be able to remove it by covering it with ice until the gum freezes, then scraping it off with a putty knife.

The ice forces the gum to freeze into a workable substance compared to a gooey and sticky mess. Once the chewing gum is frozen, we slide a putty knife or scraper under the gum residue. Next we slide the scraper very slowly beneath the gum and the whole piece should peel right off the concrete.

The above process is only possible with gum that is brand new.

When we remove gum that has turned black, or is already smashed deep down into the concrete, we use a hot water power washer with the heat turned up to 200 Degrees to melt the gum. For this type of gum removal service, we won’t use very high pressure because that could harm the surface of the concrete!

Our crew never uses more pressure than needed to clean concrete. These surfaces can be destroyed much easier than people think, especially if they’re only a few years old.
